Parental engagement at Y Foryd - Gweithio gyda teuluoedd

Meet Mrs Maher, our Family liaison officer!

Dyma Mrs Maher, ein Swyddog Teuluoedd!

Mrs.Anwen Maher is our Family Liaison Officer (FLO) at Ysgol Y Foryd and is here to listen and support all of our families as and when they need it.

Mrs Maher is based in our cabin classroom which is situated on the back playground and is always ready to support our families. She is a Trauma Informed Practitioner and has recently completed the Advanced Practitioner training in parent-child therapy - currently the only one in Wales. We are incredibly lucky to have such a caring, loving, friendly, fun family liaison officer who puts our families at the heart of everything that happens in school. She works closely with our Cluster attendance officer. Mrs Helen Taylor to support parents who might be struggling with their child's attendance. She is also a smiling face, ready to welcome the children in to school on those occasions where you might be running late. Through completing her training, Mrs Maher has developed skills to support parents and children who have experienced trauma. We have all experienced trauma in some form, from a loss of a pet, a loss of a loved one, accidents, illnesses....the list is endless and can be different for different people. But Mrs Maher, and the other staff in school have learnt strategies to help the children in school to be able to regulate their emotions to ensure that they are ready to learn.

Another part of Mrs Maher's role is to be able to signpost parents to different agencies who would be able to support with financial concern, children's behaviours and medical needs, children's sleep routines, support with domestic abuse and again the list is endless. We have a strong belief at Y Foryd that we need to support the whole Y Foryd family, which includes parents, staff and children and by offering support when needed we are working towards giving your children the very best start to their education.

Fun parenting classes and coffee shops are run by Mrs.Maher and they are always a big hit and so popular. During the sessions you get to spend time with your child on a one to one basis (which isn't always possible in a busy home), we provide parenting classes and talks from professionals around bedwetting, bedtime routines, behaviours and again these are very popular.

"The stresses of everyday life can be overwhelming for all of us and sometimes you may feel you just need to talk these through with someone. You may feel you need help with financial, social and emotional wellbeing, grief and loss, parental separation, parenting problems. I will be around to help and support you all and be able to liaise with professionals and staff if needed. If you feel you would like an informal, confidential chat please feel free to Dojo message me or find me around school on drop off and home times and you can book in with me there too. I am here to help. From Mrs Maher".
